UPO 4
Reading the Sky

Context

The fourth edition of UPO (Unidentified Paper Object), Reading the Sky, merges the watercolor art of Finnish artist Aino-Maija Metsola with poetic stanzas by Daniel de Roulet, delicately translated by Pierre Rusch. Designed by Studio Rejane Dal Bello, this UPO serves as a type specimen, blending art, text, and design into a unified whole. The paper itself adds depth through its interplay of opacity and transparency, reflecting the project’s belief in beauty as a necessity.

Design

Drawing from the title Reading the Sky, Rejane Dal Bello created the Cloud typeface, with each letter echoing the lightness of the sky. This edition, a specimen of Cloud 1, showcases Dal Bello’s distinct design rhythm, offering a seamless blend of form and function. Through its beauty, the UPO hopes to inspire and uplift its audience.
